Mario Igrec, born in 1959 in Zagreb , a philosophy teacher, worked for many years as a guitar teacher and the Head of the Jazz Department at the Vatroslav Lisinski Music School in Zagreb . He is a permanent member of the following ensembles: "Cubismo", ''Zagreb Jazz Portrait", "Swing Again", "Mario Igrec Jazz Project" ("Latin Jazz Project"), "Tro+Continuo", and until 2001 "Hot Club Zagreb".
Occasionally he worked with the Croatian Radio Television (HRT) Big Band, Croatian Military Orchestra, "Folkestra", Nina Badrić, "Elemental", Davor Radolfi, Vanna, "Jazzy Blef", "Cute“ and others. In the last couple of years he has been working with the Zagreb Philharmonic, Croatian National Theatre (HNK) Orchestra and the Croatian Radio Television (HRT) Tamburica Orchestra . The most important performances are concerts at the Jazz Festivals in Croatia , Slovenia , Austria , Germany , Italy , Hungary , Bosnia and Herzegovina , Macedonia and Yugoslavia . He has also worked with renowned international musicians.
In the year 2000 he received the Croatian Musicians Union Award „Status“ for the most prominent instrumentalist in 1999 in the Jazz, Latin, Fusion and Ethno category. So far, with the group "Cubismo" he received 20 discographical awards Porin, among which he personally received three – for the arrangement, and two for the jazz composition.
His music career also includes numerous radio and television performances.
